Progressive Challenge Project
For me what it means to be progressive is learning from past experiences whether that we from you or others in order to move forward in the world.
The reason why i chose the topic that i did was because here in america not everyone seems to care about be healthy even though it's better for you in the long run. Nutrition is a daily part of our lives and knowing what should be put into our bodies is essential as essential nutrients is what keep our bodies functioning properly.
Steps 1&2: Empathize and Define

|
During this step we had chosen our topic, mine was nutrition, be grouped up, and begin research on the topic itself. We do this in order to better understand what we are going for so it's not just based off the surface level stuff we already know. Afterwards, we worked on finding people to interview, that relate to our topic of nutrition, in the four categories: Victim, Advocate, Opposer, and Expert. Afterwards we created a presentation of everything we learned and designed a map between what is causing the issue and where does this problem lead. Once we had noticed that propaganda influenced many things and portion sizes was taking a big hit from everything we made a problem statement that was human centered:
People are being misinformed about nutrition so they are eating warped portion sizes.

Step 3: Ideate
|
During this stage of the process is is where we come up with an idea for a product or whatnot that is designed to help the user. For my group it was a little difficult for us to come up with something that could really drive us into the outside world, but we had finally decided on something with the help with our teacher Joanne. We designed a shopping cart layout that would sit at the bottom of the cart with different sections for the five food groups of various sizes relative to the food plate created by Michelle Obama.
|
Step 4: Prototype
After careful planning and scraped diesgined we had finally set foot on an official look for the cart group member Hailey worked on photoshop in order to create looks for all of the food groups wi the foods and whatnot of those areas. My other griup member Everett had measured out a shopping cart and with card stock had cut out the demensions and marked out the areas for the different sections. The facts and recommendations on the sides were researched by me for the purpose of trying to inform people if they were to use our product.

Step 5: Test
For our Progessive Day, which had taken some time to figure out what to do, we had settled on waking around Point Loma going to stores, introducing them to our topic and prototype, and asking for feedback on what was done well about it and what could be improved. As suggested by the people we talked to during our Progressive Day we should find a way to provide more specific information on the actual item, create labels that make it easier to understand what sections are what, and design the entire product on a stronger material like canvas and whatnot to have it last/easier to transport.

These two videos are of a compilations of pictures that we had taken during our Progressive Day, as well as reflection videos we made while the video on the right is solely the self reflection I had about Progressive Day and what I had thought about it as well as sort of a play by play on what I had gotten out of it.
Self Reflection
The most challenging part about the Progressive Challenge Project was understanding the fact that I had to create and follow through with my own deadlines which was a bit harder for me since I am actually more used to being given deadlines to follow/meet. The only way that I sought to overcome this obstacle was to finish most of or all of the work at school so when I came home I only had to do either a little or non of the work that I had to finish that day, What I appreciated the most during the Progressive Project was the fact that Hailey, Everett, and I as a group worked so well together because that was something I was actually kind of worried about. I had seen them budding heads before the project even began so I was a little worried on how the work ethic would go during the course of the entire project, but I am glad to say that the two had worked very well together and all that we did as a group was nothing but of the utmost quality. Something that I gained during our study of progressivism was that progress is needed in the whole of things, but progress for the sake of progress is always something that should be avoided. How we advance the world should benefit all parties: humans, animals, and nature. Unfortunately, we were not able to take to shoppers and gather their opinions on our prototype, but from what we had gathered from the managers that we talked to they were all really excited and totally for the product we had created, which to me was very shocking. I wasn't really expecting the people the actually like our idea, but low and behold they had nothing but good things to say about it and bits of feedback they had given to improve it were very helpful. As for the modifications themselves the things we would change would be make the item itself out of a sturdier material, such as canvas of something. to make easier for multiple use/easier for transport. The other changes that had come up were to label the different sections to make is easier to understand what sections were what specific food group as well as including more hard-hitting fast facts for people to read so the can learn more about what they eat and should be getting. Overall I saw this entire project as fun and enlightening and I was very glad that we got to do it.
