What I feel like went well during the project was that the fact that we were able to complete it in such a short amount of time. With the resources that we had to work with I was slightly amazed by how well the final project turned out. The entire class was so enthusiastic about it and did everything they could to make the project run smoothly. One thing though that I would change about what we dud would probably be how we handled our time. There were times when working on the background where I could've stayed longer after school to finish sketching and painting so we could've had more time to rehearse the song and better our movements. If I structured what we needed to do then we could've made an improved version o the video that we have now. What stands out to me was how determined the students seemed when doing the project. As being a fifth grader myself I wasn't as happy to do project work, but the kids here seemed really into it which I was really happy about. The students here never ceased to amaze me and I am glad that I was able to work with them during this internship.

Some advice that I have for future interns is that during the process of finding one, take some time to cool off. The process of finding and internship will be stressful, it will be frustrating, you will feel annoyed at some points but that's okay. All of the places that you contact won't all say yes, but you shouldn't let that get you down. You keep pushing forward until you finally find somewhere that will accept you. And if you're have trouble figuring out what you want to do just think about what you're interested in and what you like to do as a starting point in finding a place.
Skills that are important to have during internship are how you hold yourself in a work environment, be professional, and a few other things. Ways to work on this is to take deep breaths and calm down, you're going into the "real world" don't let that freak you out. While at you internship, since this isn't school, you have to act more professional and a way you can do this is to practice more formal mannerisms at school and at home. Practice in a mirror or with friends so you can get used to speaking and acting formally around working adults. To add to that, don't force yourself to act like something that you aren't, relax and just act like yourself in a more professional way. I know that getting and doing an internship might be heavy weighted and daunting, but don't let that scare you away. No matter what happens try to always move forward until you accomplish what you set out to do. During this internship I have had plenty of time to think about college and what I want to do. Before the start of internship I wasn't all that sure whether or not if I should become a teacher and whatnot, but this experience has brought about some new light on the subject. Even though it's not a complete for sure idea that I have but it is now a solid possibility for my future along with the other topics of criminal justices and the medical field. Though I haven't really had the time to look into other colleges I do have some Ideas of where I want to, hopefully, go to and on the topic of courses it is the same story. For right now I know that I am going to college and what, in a way, I want to study for that's all I ask for until I can finalize my decisions in the future.
What I am most thankful for during this experience is how the kids in both classes acted and worked. Mr. Estrada's class were very respectful and their work ethic is not what I expected from fourth graders, which I found refreshing and appreciated. Mrs. Estrada's fifth graders were a bit rowdy, but that didn't completely define them as during the project they were very excited and did everything they could to make the project great as well as their own. The work kept me busy giving me something to do as well as help improve my work ethic along with my ability to stay organized. The appreciation gained through this internship was the fact how the teachers & staff were kind and friendly, it was nice to feel that I could be myself in a more professional manner without it feeling forced. Everything about internship has been a wonderful experience and I am g;lad I was able to do this.
I notice that of the people around me as I work that they are very friendly and kind while talking to co.workers and to the students. I want to develop a kind of kindness and a more upbeat attitude so that I can come across more approachable to people and hopefully that could help me out in breaking out of my anti social ways. During my time as an intern it has given a chance to see the world outside of my school cased view and understand that sometimes the world isn't a;ways black and white, there is plenty of grey area that people work with all the time. Out in the "real world" you have to hold up a certain amount of professionalism but it doesn't have to be oozing out of you at the seams, there are times where you can relax and loosen your "work face" and just try to be yourself, as cheesy as it sounds, when you're on the clock. As for my direction in life, when it comes to college, like I have said before, this experience has put forth the prospect of going into education as a choice adding on to my others in working in the medical field and criminal justices. This internship has shown me ideas and paths I thought I wouldn't even think about and has shown me a have a lot more skills than I had previously first thought and I am grateful that I have been shown this, I wouldn't change this for the world.
As preparing I always referred back to the pictures that I had taken and the blog posts I have posted since they are a collection of my experience here at my internship. I all gave me the idea of what I wanted to talk about during my IPOL and what I wanted to do. I created a PowerPoint as a visual piece of my internship as I talk about what this experience has done for me and help me along with talking about the project I have working on during my internship. I have also written and finalizing some note cards for me to refer to during my presentation so that I don't have to feel like that I'm winging what I an saying and to try to keep me from diverging off topic. With all of that I am also trying to go over what the sophomores, and my advisors, might ask me after the presentation since I was once in their shoes so I kind of know what they might ask si i can prepare on what to say when they begin lobbing questions at me. I am very excited to see my advisory when they come to visit on Friday and I really hope I can enlighten them on the path of internship and what they should kind of expect.
I find that working along with teachers and working at a school that communication is a very important key to a functioning work environment. If you aren't vocal enough in a work space like this there really isn't much for you to do, as people aren't really mind readers and therefore can't guess what you are thinking and want. Through my experience so far I have done a lot of conversing with the teachers as i have done a lot of planning throughout the weeks for the project and just overall my work that I would do there while there at the school. At a school, or at least what I see at this school, there is a sense of casualness when talking with the staff but it also holds that part of professionalism that you would expect in a regular work environment.
As I am halfway through my internship I am very pleased with how everything has turned out. This experience has been quite a journey and I have welcomed the change to my routine as well as giving me a chance to expand my knowledge. The project I have been working on has grown a lot into almost the final product that I am excited to see. The project took inspiration from the Literary Rap Throwdown project that I had did in the 10th Grade. At the beginning the idea was kinda just another version of just that, but over time it's grown into something that is still similar to the project of origin but has it own feel to it. Since the fifth graders were learning about the revolutionary war we thought it be a great idea to make a battle between the two head figures: King George III vs. George Washington. Over the weeks the song, who's acting, what props we need, and what the background looks like have evolved to fit the needs of the information gathered and how we are going to do this with the limited equipment that have have to work with.
I have learned plenty of skills throughout the entirety of the internship that I have gone through. I, like I have said before, have grown much as a leader and a mentor to the student that I work with and along with that I have learned/improved upon my skills working GarageBand and soon iMovie. Even though that is, so far, what I have learned and worked on, from what I can tell, this has been an absolutely positive experience and I am so happy to have this opportunity. For what I am doing at my internship it doesn't feel all that different from what I would do at school, doing an adaptation of a previous project I've done probably helps out with that. Most of my work is very hands on, as a normal school day, while other times a feel more like a mentor to the students. Since I am not the one "learning" in class it gives me more opportunities to walk around the classroom and see if anyone needs help with anything. It feels nice to have the chance to help out young minds in understanding the information given to them as well as teach them things that help them in working on the project. Today I worked with a good chunk of the fifth grade class in recording the lyrics and give pointers to the student figuring out on how to edit the tracks, where to place them, how to make new ones, and such. The interactions between them and me feel, for obvious reasons, less like friend to friend and more like teacher to student which gives me a more sense of responsibility to get them to understand what I am showing them and making sure they are doing the work right.
Like I had stated before this internship has given me a chance to grow on my skills as a leader and mentor and those are skills that are very useful around the we do at High Tech ,since without a good leader a project might become undone and ruined. Finally, also how I've stated before, these kind of skills don't only help me in school it can also be a valuable ability to have when out in the real world trying to get a job, showing how capable you are in guiding people and getting the work done. Throughout, so far, of my experience at my internship I have noticed that I have grown a great amount, in my opinion, on my skills as a leader and mentor. I am usually not the kind of person to take charge of something right at the beginning, but this internship has helped me so far in developing my ability to direct people and guide them to an end-goal. I am very pleased that I have been able to work on my skills as a leader and I hope that comes in handy. At a project based school having a leadership skill is very useful and I hope that I can see myself taking more initiative in the project work at school, but that's not all. Outside of my academic career me developing my leadership skills further can help me with getting jobs later in life and I so hope that I can continue to grow this skill and use it to its full potential.
