Self Portaits
To work better with ink pens and such we all made multiple self portraits. I had chosen two pictures to work with and alternated as i drew getting better with each attempt.
Portraits in Pencil (Frida)
As one of the first drawings that we did in class we were given only a description of the figure to draw. Then we were given the image of the person and drew using it as reference. Finally we use a tracing method in order to "grab" the outline and do the drawing from there. What you see- on the left- is the image of Frida and next to it- the right- is the final drawing that I did of her.

Watercolor Paintings
For a little over a week as a class worked with watercolor paints to see what we could create. The images above are of three pieces I had painted.

Art Mash-up
After reviewing many pieces of art, it was our turn to create something of our own. The goal was to take two art pieces from two different artists and "mash" them together to make wonderful piece. I had just taken the background (red skies and trees) from google as it looked nice; I had taken a painting (the smoke) for the artist Alexsander Wells and a sculpture from the artist Ed Kienholz.

Virtual Sculpture
People in real life have designed huge sculptures of normal household objects and place them all over the place. We took that concept and did it in a more accessible- easier- way through the use of digital art. I was able to find an image of what I believe to be a college campus and placed a Expo Marker in that open campus field. It was quite difficult to bring the tree it covered to the front as well as figure out how the shadow would drape on the marker as well as the building, but in the end I am proud of what I made.

Virtual Wall
For this mini project we had to photograph a wall near our home, design an idea for a collage/art piece, then place what you have made and place it on the picture of the wall you took through the use of Photoshop. I had designed my collage around the fact that people "wear" masks in order to hide their true selves, myself included. I wanted to take that imagery of masks and surround them around a broken mask, symbolizing that we don't always have to hide.

3D Sculpture
The Mind and Its Shadow
The sculpture itself represents my thoughts and inability to separate my work from the dark criticisms that scratch and claw their way to the front of my mind; This ultimately hurts me in the end because after a while… I start believing those little thoughts. These thoughts crop up once in a while during school and are easily ignored, but when I draw or when I write… they become too loud to ignore: “Why finish this sketch? It’s only going to get more frustrating…” “All you have to do is stopped writing and you’ll stop struggling… it’s not like your friends will like it anyways.” “Art has never been your strong suit, why even try?” “Writing won’t get you anywhere…” “Terrible!” “Wrong!” “Waste of time!” “JUST STOP!!!” But I keep going. I keep going because it’s writing is fun, because sketching pushes me to improve, because writing and art make up a part of who I am. There will always be this aura that surrounds me and they’ll always be those thoughts that try to knock me down, but as long as I push to make what I want then… then maybe those thoughts might just keep their mouths shut. |
